《道德经》为春秋时代老子所著，存世二千多年，五千言字字珠玑，是我国一部哲学、社会学、政治学及军事学的不朽巨著。《道德经》博大精深的思想，已成为中国深厚传统文化不可或缺的部分，其提出的和谐理念和精神境界，正好符合构建和谐及小康社会的实践之道。
为让中学生认识我国文化瑰宝《道德经》，弘扬中国传统文化，配合特区政府推行德育教育的施政方针，澳门道乐团自2011年起，举办《道德经》中学生校际及个人/组合歌唱比赛，深获社会人士、学校师生、传媒的赞许，对本地区学生的德育发展起着积极的推动作用。
2014年澳门道乐团继续举办《道德经》中学生校际歌唱比赛及男女组合比赛，参赛队伍及男女组合学生以粤语及普通话分别演唱《道德经》第五十一章及第六十章和六十一章，该两章曲谱由本团音乐总监、原武汉音乐学院道教音乐研究室主任王忠人副教授创作撰写。
